How to Make Easy Crockpot BBQ Ribs

Step 1: Prep the Ribs

Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs if needed. Pat dry with paper towels.

Step 2: Make the Spice Rub

In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, ground mustard, and smoked paprika.

Rub the seasoning generously over both sides of the ribs.

Step 3: Slow Cook

Cut the racks if needed so they fit inside the crockpot. Arrange them standing upright along the sides of the slow cooker. Drizzle on 1 1/2 cups of barbecue sauce, saving 1/2 cup for later.

Cook on: LOW for 8–10 hours
The ribs should be tender and nearly falling apart.

Step 4: Add BBQ Sauce

Carefully transfer the ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush generously with your favorite BBQ sauce.

Step 5: Broil for Grilled Flavor

Place the ribs under the broiler for 3–5 minutes until the sauce becomes caramelized and slightly charred. This step gives the ribs that grilled-style finish without needing an outdoor grill.

Easy Crockpot BBQ Ribs

Tender slow-cooked ribs coated in flavorful spices and your favorite BBQ sauce, then finished under the broiler for a grilled style finish.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Servings: 6 people

Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 2 racks baby back ribs or pork spare ribs
  • 2 cups Barbecue sauce I like Sweet Baby Rays Original
Dry Rub
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika You can also use regular paprika if you don't have smoked
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard

Equipment

  • 1 crockpot
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 basting brush
  • 1 tongs

Method

  1. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. Just slide your fingers around the sides to loosen it up and rip it off, or make a slice on the back and peel it off.
  2. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels on all sides.
  3. In a small bowl, stir together the ingredients for the dry rub. Then rub this mixture generously over the outside of the ribs to coat.
  4. Put your ribs in the crockpot. Drizzle on 1 1/2 cups of barbecue sauce, reserving 1/2 cups for later.
  5. Cook on low for 8-10 hours. The more racks of ribs in the crockpot, the longer you'll need to cook them.
  6. Gently remove the racks with tongs, and lay them out on a foil lined baking sheet. Add the reserved barbecue sauce on top with a basting brush.
  7. Place the baking sheet of rib racks under the broiler, and broil for 3-5 minutes or until the barbecue sauce starts to bubble and caramelize.
*Alternatively, after basting with barbecue sauce, you could wrap them in foil and throw them on a high heated grill at 500 degrees for the same effect. Grill them with the lid closed for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce starts to bubble and caramelize.

Final Thoughts

These Easy BBQ Crockpot Ribs prove you don’t need a grill to make flavorful, tender ribs at home. The slow cooker creates juicy, fall-off-the-bone meat, while the broiler adds that classic BBQ finish everyone loves.
