Living in a place with true seasonal changes makes you appreciate each season differently. After months of cold weather, shorter days, and spending more time indoors, spring and summer almost feel like an invitation to come back outside again.
This is the season for opening the doors, sitting outside longer, hearing the birds in the morning, planting flowers, and gathering around the table or fire pit at night. The outdoor spaces that sat quiet through winter suddenly become part of everyday life again.
I think that’s one of the things I love most about living in seasonal climates — every season brings a reset. And right now, this season feels like getting outside more and creating spaces that make home feel welcoming both inside and out.
Lately, I’ve been spending my time tending to the garden, planting fresh flowers, and bringing color back into the spaces we’ll spend the next few months enjoying. It’s one of my favorite seasonal resets — not because everything has to be perfect, but because it feels good bringing life back outdoors again.

Right now, the flower baskets are going up at the doors, adding that first welcoming touch of the season. I certainly make my own containers, and love picking out just the right flowers and colors. But when life gets busy, its great to use ready made containers that you can find at local home improvements centers or garden centers to drop in your planters and enjoy.

The outdoor table and chairs are uncovered and cleaned off, ready for slow mornings with coffee, casual dinners outside, and nights that somehow always end up lasting longer than planned. I use a great outdoor rejuvenating wipe that brings back the shine and luster of hard surfaces, and makes it look new again.

The fire pit is ready to go again too — one of my favorite parts of outdoor season. There’s just something comforting about gathering around a fire at the end of the day, even on cooler spring nights.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that outdoor prep isn’t only about flowers and furniture — it’s also about getting ahead of the bugs before summer fully arrives. This time of year, I usually lay insect control granules around the flower beds and throughout the grass to help keep mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, and other bugs under control before they become a problem later in the season. As well, if your in an area with deer and rabbits that like to eat your plants, its time to start spraying to deter them. I use Liquid Fence deer and rabbit repellent, the only hitch is that you have to respray after it rains.

Another outdoor product I’ve been trying lately are mosquito sticks that burn similarly to incense sticks. They’re such an easy addition for evenings outside around the fire pit or patio table and help make being outdoors much more enjoyable during bug season.
A few outdoor products to consider for the season:
• Mosquito & tick control granules for lawns and flower beds
• Lounge area
• Citronella candles or torches
• Umbrellas
• Fire pit
• Outdoor dining table and chairs

As I get older, I realize more and more that creating a home isn’t only about what’s inside the walls. It’s also about creating spaces that invite you to slow down, breathe deeper, and enjoy the season you’re in.
And honestly, that feels pretty important right now.
