Halloween is one of those holidays when I can’t resist having a little fun in the kitchen. And honestly, sometimes the simplest treats turn out to be the cutest.

These Halloween monster Oreo pops are made with Oreo cookies dipped in colorful melted chocolate and decorated with candy eyes, sprinkles, and a few other sweet embellishments. No baking, no complicated ingredients, and definitely no decorating skills required!

I originally made these little monsters for a Halloween Trunk or Treat celebration while we were living in Germany, and they were such a hit! Halloween has been growing in popularity in Germany, with more families embracing costumes, decorations, parties, and even trick-or-treating. While it still isn’t celebrated quite the same way as it is in the United States, it was fun to see the excitement around the holiday.

Our Trunk or Treat was such a fun way to celebrate, and these little monsters were a perfect addition. Between the colorful chocolate, funny candy eyes, and all their different expressions, they were almost as much fun to look at as they were to eat!

I made everything from white chocolate mummies and green Frankenstein-inspired monsters to colorful three-eyed creatures and little chocolate bats. Each one ended up with its own funny personality, especially when the candy eyes didn’t quite cooperate.

They’re perfect for Halloween parties, school celebrations, neighborhood gatherings, or just a fun afternoon in the kitchen with the kids. And one of my favorite things about these little monsters? They double as adorable decorations for your Halloween dessert table.

Why You’ll Love These Halloween Oreo Pops

There are plenty of reasons to love these little monsters.

  • No baking required. Start with Oreo cookies and let the decorating begin.
  • Easy to customize. Make mummies, bats, Frankenstein monsters, or invent your own creatures.
  • Fun for kids. Let everyone choose their own colors, eyes, and sprinkles.
  • Perfect for parties. Individually wrap them or arrange them in a fun Halloween display.
  • Make them ahead. Prepare the pops before your party so there’s one less thing to do on the big day.

And unlike some Halloween desserts that require special pans or complicated decorating techniques, these are surprisingly simple once you get the hang of dipping the cookies.

How to Display Halloween Oreo Pops for a Party

When I made these for our Halloween Trunk or Treat in Germany, I wanted something that would be easy for everyone to grab but also look fun displayed on the table. I filled a large mason jar with uncooked rice and arranged the finished monster pops inside, almost like a little Halloween bouquet. The rice helped keep the sticks upright, while the different colors and funny little faces made the display part of the Halloween decorations. I also used a cake pop display stand to arrange the treats in rows and placed them around the table.

I wrapped each Oreo pop individually in clear treat bags and secured them with small twist ties. Not only did this make them easy for guests to grab, but it also helped keep everything neat when transporting them to our Trunk or Treat.

Another fun idea: Make several jars of monster pops and scatter them around your Halloween food table. They add color, height, and a little personality without requiring additional decorations.

Tips and FAQ’s About Making the Best Halloween Oreo Pops

After making a few batches, you’ll quickly discover that a handful of simple tricks makes the process much easier.

Secure the sticks first. Always allow the chocolate holding the sticks to harden before dipping the cookies.

Why are my Oreo cookies falling off the sticks? The chocolate securing the sticks may not have hardened completely, or the cookies may have cracked when the sticks were inserted. Try Double Stuff Oreos and allow the chocolate to set before dipping.

Can I make Halloween Oreo pops without sticks? Definitely! You can make the same Halloween monster designs as chocolate-covered Oreo cookies. Simply dip the cookies using a fork, place them on parchment paper, and decorate.

Can I use regular chocolate chips instead of candy melts? Yes, but candy melts or chocolate melting wafers are usually easier to work with. They melt smoothly and are designed to set into a firm coating. Regular chocolate may require tempering for the best finish and using food coloring can seize the chocolate.

Work with one color at a time. This keeps the chocolate from hardening while you’re busy decorating another monster.

Keep the decorations nearby. Have the candy eyes, sprinkles, and pretzel pieces ready before dipping.

Don’t overheat the chocolate. Melt it slowly and stir frequently.

Let the chocolate set completely. Moving the pops too soon can damage the decorations or cause items on the pops to break off.

Make a few extras. Between cracked cookies, broken bat wings, and the occasional taste test, having a few extras is never a bad idea!

Can You Make Halloween Oreo Pops Ahead of Time? Absolutely! That’s another reason I love these for Halloween parties. You can make the Oreo pops one to three days before your celebration. Once the chocolate has hardened completely, store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If you’re packaging them individually, make sure the chocolate has fully set before sliding them into treat bags. Avoid refrigerating them unless necessary, since condensation can affect the appearance of the chocolate coating.

Can kids help decorate Halloween Oreo pops? Absolutely! This is such a fun activity to do with kids. Have an adult handle melting the chocolate and preparing the cookies, then let the kids choose their monster colors, add candy eyes, and decorate with sprinkles. Just be prepared for a little extra chocolate on the counter!

  • piping bags
  • candy sticks

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Oreo Cookies
  1. Carefully twist apart each Oreo cookie, keeping the cream filling attached to one side.
  2. Dip the end of a lollipop stick into a small amount of melted chocolate and gently press it into the cream filling.
  3. Place the other cookie half back on top and press lightly.
  4. Arrange the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow the chocolate to set completely.
  5. This helps secure the sticks and keeps the cookies from falling apart during dipping.
  6. Tip: If you find that regular Oreos crack too easily, try Double Stuf Oreos. The extra filling gives you a little more room to secure the stick.
Step 2: Melt the Chocolate
  1. Place your candy melts or melting wafers into separate microwave-safe bowls.
  2. Melt according to the package instructions, stirring frequently until smooth.
  3. If the chocolate becomes too thick for dipping, add a small amount of food-grade candy-melt thinning oil or vegetable shortening.
  4. Avoid adding water, which can cause melted chocolate to seize.
Step 3: Dip the Oreo Pops
  1. Hold each Oreo by its stick and carefully lower it into the melted chocolate until completely coated.
  2. Lift the cookie out and gently tap off any excess chocolate.
  3. Place the dipped Oreo onto parchment paper or into a cake pop stand.
  4. Add decorations while the coating is still soft, or use a little additional melted chocolate to attach decorations after it has hardened.
  5. Now comes the fun part—turning those chocolate-covered Oreos into Halloween monsters!

Four Fun Halloween Monster Oreo Pop Designs

You can make all four designs or choose your favorites.

I love mixing them together because the different colors and expressions make such a fun Halloween display.

White Chocolate Mummy Oreo Pops

These little mummies are probably the easiest of the bunch, and they’re always adorable.

How to make them:

  1. Carefully twist open an Oreo cookie. Dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melted white chocolate, press it lightly into the cream filling, and replace the top cookie. Allow the chocolate to set completely before dipping.
  2. Dip the Oreo pop into melted white chocolate until completely coated. Gently tapping off any excess chocolate.
  3. Allow the coating to begin setting.
  4. Attach two edible candy eyeballs using a dab of melted chocolate if needed.
  5. Allow to dry completely.
  6. Transfer additional melted white chocolate to a piping bag or small zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off.
  7. Drizzle thin lines back and forth across the cookie to resemble mummy bandages.
  8. Allow the chocolate to harden completely.

Don’t worry about making the bandages perfectly straight. The uneven lines give each mummy a little more character. And if one eye ends up peeking out from underneath a bandage? Even better!

Frankenstein Monster Oreo Pops

These green little monsters are full of personality, especially with their chocolate sprinkle hair and funny expressions.

How to make them:

  1. Carefully twist open an Oreo cookie. Dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melted white chocolate, press it lightly into the cream filling, and replace the top cookie. Allow the chocolate to set completely before dipping.
  2. Dip an Oreo pop into melted green candy coating.
  3. While the chocolate is still soft, sprinkle chocolate jimmies across the top to create Frankenstein’s hair.
  4. Add two edible candy eyeballs.
  5. Attach small pretzel pieces to either side of the cookie for bolts.
  6. Allow the cookie to set completely.
  7. Use black decorating icing or melted dark chocolate to draw a squiggly mouth.
  8. Allow the decorations to set completely.

I like giving each Frankenstein monster a slightly different expression. Some look surprised, some look confused, and a few look like they might have had a very long Halloween night!

Colorful Three-Eyed Monster Oreo Pops

These are the perfect excuse to use all those colorful sprinkles sitting in your baking cabinet.

And they’re especially fun for kids because there really aren’t any decorating rules.

How to make them:

  1. Carefully twist open an Oreo cookie. Dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melted white chocolate, press it lightly into the cream filling, and replace the top cookie. Allow the chocolate to set completely before dipping.
  2. Once set, dip an Oreo pop into pink, purple, or another brightly colored candy coating.
  3. While the coating is still soft, add three edible candy eyeballs, or one large one if you prefer.
  4. Sprinkle rainbow nonpareils across the top.
  5. Let the chocolate harden completely.

Try making a few monsters with one oversized eye, three eyes, or even four tiny eyes. You can also experiment with different colors and sprinkle combinations. The sillier they look, the better!

Chocolate Bat Oreo Pops

These little chocolate bats are another favorite, and the wings are made from Oreo cookies! No special decorations required.

How to make them:

  1. Carefully separate a few additional Oreo cookies and remove the cream filling.
  2. Break or cut the chocolate cookie wafers into halves to create bat wings.
  3. Carefully twist open an Oreo cookie. Dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melted white chocolate, press it lightly into the cream filling, and replace the top cookie. Allow the chocolate to set completely before dipping.
  4. Dip an Oreo pop into melted milk or dark chocolate.
  5. Attach one Oreo wing to each side using melted chocolate.
  6. Add two edible candy eyeballs.
  7. Sprinkle a few chocolate jimmies across the top for texture.
  8. Allow the chocolate to set completely before moving.

Helpful tip: If the wings won’t stay in place, lay the bats flat on parchment paper and use a little melted chocolate to secure them.

Let everything harden before standing them upright. You may want to make a few extra Oreo wings because the cookies can break when separating them.
